With the new boat not quite ready to put in the water I took advantage of an invite from my friend Lou to fish with him on Saturday morning, which helped to take the edge off my severe landsickness. We started out going west right out of the harbor, water was as clear as a glass of gin, and made things tough there for us. Only one hookup in two passes on one of our favorite skinny water spots. We trolled east making some adjustments to boat position and our lures, and eventually found some fish in 3 feet of water. Managed to light up our rods up for a while, with one double, boating several nice browns and a few cookie cutters. After the inside auctioned died, we switched gear and deployed 2 riggers for lake trout, and some top water baits for cohos. Never took a fish on the surface lines, but the lakers came to play, and we would spend the rest of the morning have fun with them. Lake trout on light line, in cold spring water, equals a lot of fun, even for a bunch of veteran fisherman like us.
Finishing the last of the to do list on the boat this week, and looking to splash on Friday. I can't wait, it's been too long in coming.
